Israel is an exceptionally child-friendly country, with many hotels catering to families with youngsters.

But Israeli hoteliers also know that grownups sometimes need a vacation experience free of the pitter-patter of little feet.

Adult-only hotels are just the ticket for a romantic getaway, friends’ get-together or business trip mixed with leisure.

The hotels below are just a sampling of properties exclusively for guests over 16, or in some cases 18 or 21. Most of these properties are small and located in serene surroundings.

Alegra Boutique Hotel

The Alegra Boutique Hotel in the quiet, leafy Ein Kerem district has six rooms and seven suites, each named after a pair of historical or mythical lovers. Opened in 2011, the buildings comprising the hotel are a former Crusader inn from about 1,000 years ago and a 200-year-old former synagogue. The four guesthouses at Sitopia, crafted from local stone with a Tuscan feel, are situated in a rural moshav near Beit Shemesh overlooking the vineyards and forests of the Judean Hills. Its new restaurant, helmed by Michelin-star chef Assaf Granit, features local Galilean products and cuisine. David Tower Hotel & Spa

Almost all of the 77 rooms and suites in the David Tower face Netanya’s Mediterranean beach. The hotel occupies several floors of a high-rise apartment house yet it has an intimate feel, with a small lobby restaurant and heated indoor pool. There’s a Turkish hammam, gym and spa. Though the building is on King David Street, it’s named in honor of a different David: The 16th century Sultan Daud Pasha of the Ottoman Empire, whose love story inspired the hotel’s design.
