Israel is an exceptionally child-friendly country, with many hotels catering to families with youngsters.

But Israeli hoteliers also know that grownups sometimes need a vacation experience free of the pitter-patter of little feet.

Adult-only hotels are just the ticket for a romantic getaway, friends’ get-together or business trip mixed with leisure.

The hotels below are just a sampling of properties exclusively for guests over 16, or in some cases 18 or 21. Most of these properties are small and located in serene surroundings.

Alegra Boutique Hotel

The Alegra Boutique Hotel in the quiet, leafy Ein Kerem district has six rooms and seven suites, each named after a pair of historical or mythical lovers. Opened in 2011, the buildings comprising the hotel are a former Crusader inn from about 1,000 years ago and a 200-year-old former synagogue. The Alegra has breakfast room, spa, wet/dry sauna, meeting room, sun deck, courtyard and garden with splash pools, waterfalls and fish ponds.

Hotel Botanica

Located next to the gorgeous Bahá’í Gardens in the downtown German Colony area of Haifa, Botanica is a new addition to the Fattal chain. This 163-room property has a rooftop pool, lobby café, greenhouse-style patio, cocktail bar, shops, conference room, spa and gym.

Brown Eilat

Inspired by 1930s Miami South Beach, Brown Eilat has 84 designed rooms and sits on the northern coast of Israel’s most southern city. It’s just a short walk from the Red Sea beach boardwalk, Ice Mall, bars and restaurants. Brown Eilat encompasses a bar, a pool and an Italian chef restaurant.

Situated on the beach boardwalk, this 53-room boutique hotel – including Rain Suites, fitted to impress with a double whirlpool and rain shower — offers spa treatments, whirlpool, wet and dry saunas, outdoor pool with waterfall jets, gourmet meals and more. It’s part of a larger hotel complex where guests can enjoy activities and nightly entertainment.

Spa Village is located in Yarmouk Valley’s Hamat Gader, the only crocodile farm in the Middle East. The hotel has 31 rustic European-style suites with Jacuzzis, surrounded by palm trees and hot springs. The property has thermo-mineral water pools, a dry and wet sauna, spa treatments, fitness facilities, a restaurant and bar.

Carmel Forest Spa Resort

The largest health spa in Israel, the Carmel Forest Spa Resort encompasses 126 rooms and suites overlooking a secluded grove in the Carmel Forest Reserve near Haifa. In addition to gourmet meals catered to guests’ preferences; indoor and outdoor pools; cocktail bar; spa treatments and gym; the hotel offers guided walking tours as well as workshops, lectures and fitness classes.

The 92-room Indigo is designed as an Art Deco reinterpretation of a diamond, because it sits near the Israel Diamond Exchange (Boursa) in Ramat Gan, adjacent to Tel Aviv. Throughout the hotel, murals depict history’s most famous diamonds. Start your morning with a personally served breakfast on the wooden deck, which includes vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free and lactose-sensitive meals served on request. Come back for happy hour Tuesdays and Thursdays before dinner, and finish off the day on the rooftop bar with a beach view.

Designed as a luxurious pod hotel, Isla offers private rooms with a standard double bed, shower and toilet; or female-only and mixed rooms with three bunk beds, each with personal lighting and charging dock, rolldown privacy curtains and lockers. Toilets and showers are outside the group pods. There’s a café and bar on premises.

Pereh, a 27-room-and-suite boutique resort, opened in June 2022 in the renovated Bauhaus buildings that formerly housed the Ottoman-era French Custom House. The property boasts large terraces, orchards and gardens, an outdoor infinity pool with hot tub and bar, spa, chef restaurant, wine cellar (with tastings three times a week), and event and meeting spaces. Works of local contemporary artists are exhibited throughout the hotel.

Sitopia Living

The four guesthouses at Sitopia, crafted from local stone with a Tuscan feel, are situated in a rural moshav near Beit Shemesh overlooking the vineyards and forests of the Judean Hills. Each is individually styled and has access to a terrace, a courtyard with a pool, an outdoor shower and a steam room. Like bigger hotels, Sitopia serves breakfast daily. It also offers the option of picnic baskets, a barbecue on the terrace or a home-cooked meal in the evening.

This is the largest adult-only hotel on our list, with 242 rooms. If offers a Moroccan-inspired spa, wellness and entertainment activities, two restaurants, a lobby bar, outdoor swimming pool, heated indoor saltwater pool, wet and dry sauna and bike rentals… all overlooking the Dead Sea across the street.

Gordonia Private Hotel

The romantic Gordonia, situated on a leafy kibbutz west of Jerusalem, has 40 junior suites – some with a pool view, some with a mountain view, some with a shared pool, some with a private pool, some with a pool and hot tub. Galei Kinneret Hotel

This 123-room luxury hotel on a private beach on the Sea of Galilee (Lake Kinneret) was built in 1946 and was recently renovated extensively. Its new restaurant, helmed by Michelin-star chef Assaf Granit, features local Galilean products and cuisine. The hotel has an outdoor pool and bar, large glass-enclosed outdoor hot tub, private boat, loungers on the waterfront, spa, gym, lobby bar and food truck. A personal “experience manager” is available.

A meticulously renovated historic villa on the grounds of Bat Shlomo Vineyards, The Farmhouse (along with Galei Kinneret, above), was noted by Condé Nast Traveler as an outstanding place to stay in the Galilee. It encompasses five guest rooms, a heated infinity pool, living room, gym, farm-to-table private chef meals, wine tastings, bike or jeep tours, and wellness activities such as massages, Pilates and yoga classes.

David Tower Hotel & Spa

Almost all of the 77 rooms and suites in the David Tower face Netanya’s Mediterranean beach. The hotel occupies several floors of a high-rise apartment house yet it has an intimate feel, with a small lobby restaurant and heated indoor pool. There’s a Turkish hammam, gym and spa. Though the building is on King David Street, it’s named in honor of a different David: The 16th century Sultan Daud Pasha of the Ottoman Empire, whose love story inspired the hotel’s design.
