Flash mob-esque marriage proposals to the Bruno Mars song “Marry You” have been trending online since the song was released in 2010. Although it took nearly four years for a great Israeli version to hit the social media waves, it finally arrived with a viral splash.
The latest Bruno Mars-inspired down-on-one-knee clip was filmed at the Suzanne Dellal Center for Dance and Theater in Tel Aviv, a favorite marriage proposal spot thanks to its gorgeous courtyard. The video went public on May 2, 2014 and surpassed 12,000 likes and another 12,000 shares in 48 hours.

There are many Israeli marriage proposal film clips on the Internet. Few are tearjerkers like the latest clip. And it would seem the “Marry You” soundtrack is still super popular here.
Earlier this year, Elad – a student at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem –used “Marry You” to propose to his girlfriend, Olga. The clip combined home-video snippets with a flash mob at the university library. It reached 68,000 hits.
And before that, two students at the College of Management Academic Studies in Rishon LeZion also got engaged to the song in a campus flash mob.
Video sites like YouTube and Vimeo are rife with “the best marriage proposals ever” clips. Usually around Valentine’s Day in February, entertainment magazines and blogs feature their favorite roundup of viral proposal videos (not necessarily to Bruno Mars songs).
Hands down, the most epic of the online marriage proposal videos is dubbed the “world’s first live lip-dub proposal” by American actor Isaac Lamb to his now wife, Amy Frankel. Since the 2012 release of that video, it has garnered more than 25 million views.
Another winner is “Spencer’s Home Depot Marriage Proposal”, which was featured on The Ellen Degeneres Show and has racked up over 12 million views.
Some of the viral videos are indeed too good to be true and turn out to be an advertisement. Though the latest Israeli video features dancers from the Batsheva Dance Ensemble and Batsheva Dance Company, a spokesperson for the Suzanne Dellal Center — now marking its 25th anniversary — told ISRAEL21c that the timing was pure coincidence and the video is not an advertisement.
While the Israeli version is still far from hitting pinnacle numbers, would-be viewers need to take heed: This video will make you cry.
