The BFG (Big Friendly Giant) could, if he wanted to, leave the movie theater and come to relax on Tel Aviv’s beachfront. There are two giant chairs at Gordon Beach just waiting for beach-goers to sit for selfies.
Actually, the Tel Aviv-Yafo Municipality has developed a knack for surprising beach-goers and adding an extra touch of fun to a sand-and-sea outing.
“The main reason is fun and to give people something to take a picture with,” a city spokesperson tells ISRAEL21c, noting that Tel Aviv’s 14 kilometers of beaches are a main attraction point in the city.
The massive chairs – measuring 1.8 by 2.4 meters — will stay at Gordon Beach until the end of the swim season.
In May-June, the municipality added art by the sea — an outdoor exhibition showcasing some of the Tel Aviv Museum of Art’s selected works.
City Hall also runs a library service at Tel Aviv’s beaches. And there’s free WiFi at the beach.
