International media and music fans are hailing her as one of the top performers at this year’s song competition.
“Mei has the voice of Pink, the body of Gaga, the empowering angst of Kelly Clarkson and the dance moves of Beyoncé – so basically she’s pretty gosh darn amazing,” writes the UK’s Daily Mirror. “Same Heart is a mash-up of the best parts of rock, dance and power pop and uses Mei’s impressive voice better than nearly any other Eurovision entry this year, but that’s its only downside.”
The Metro entertainment site gushes: “It’s been a while since Israel made a big impact on the Eurovision stage but this pop-rock English/Hebrew stomper, from feisty, gravel-throated Pink-a-like Mei Finegold, is quite simply one of their best entries in ages. Although we have to admit, she is scaring us just a little bit.”
Finegold won over Israeli audiences in 2009, when she finished in third place in A Star is Born televised singing contest. She then took the theater world by storm and won “Best New Actress” award in 2010 and “Best Supporting Actress Of The Year” in 2013.
The mother-of-one flip flops between music and theater and is a member of bands, a solo singer, and a stage performer.
“Israel could be this year’s surprise hit with the incredible voice of Mei Finegold belting out the rock tune Same Heart. The multi-talented singer is an award winning actress and is sure to put in a strong performance on the night,” writes Yahoo UK.
Israel won in 1998 (Dana International), in 1979 (Milk and Honey), and in 1978 (Izhar Cohen and the Alphabeta).
