Hollywood actress Natalie Portman is currently in Israel working on her film adaption of one of the most successful novels in Israeli literature. Portman is making her feature film directorial debut with ‘A Tale of Love and Darkness’ by author Amos Oz.

Portman, who is staying at a Tel Aviv hotel, has not yet begun filming. She is in town to fine-tune the screenplay and work out production details. Filming is set to begin in January.

Portman is also expected to play the role of the author’s mother, with Hebrew dialogue.

The Israeli-American production is being funded in part by the Jerusalem Film and Television Fund.
