The Negev Desert area is hot right now – and not just in temperature.

The Lonely Planet travel guide put the area second on its Top 10 list of regions to visit in 2013.

“For decades the Negev was regarded as nothing but a desolate desert. But today, this region is a giant greenhouse of development. Think eco-villages, spa resorts and even wineries. In the next few years a new international airport at Timna is scheduled to open, followed by a high-speed railway to Eilat and more hotels. Time is running out to experience the desert as nature intended,” the guidebook wrote.

There are also numerous music festivals held throughout the year in the area. And, the Negev counts many romantic spots.

Just last week the Conde Nast Traveler magazine also included the desert area on its annual Hot List — electing the Beresheet Hotel at Mitzpe Ramon as one of the world’s best new hotels.
