VRHealth of Tel Aviv and Boston has announced a partnership with Facebook’s Oculus brand to deliver its newest health and wellness solutions using virtual reality headsets.
Ahead of the Oculus Connect 5 event in San Jose on September 27, the companies announced that Go and Rift hardware will deliver VRHealth software to manage pain for mothers in labor, cancer patients in chemotherapy, and patients before and after surgery, among other hospital and outpatient uses.
“VR has the power to ease the pain of chemotherapy treatment, create a seamless environment for physical therapy exercises, and train children with ADHD to focus their attention,” VRHealth CEO Eran Orr said.
“We see that applying the effects of VR to the healthcare industry has the potential to improve many lives and aid doctors in providing personalized and comfortable experiences for their patients.”
Virtual reality transports patients to an environment where they can view and experience treatment in a more positive light, Orr explained.
The VRHealth solutions include tracking tools and real-time data analytics for health professionals to manage individualized patient care in a hospital, clinic or remote environment.
The systems already are in use at US medical facilities and hospitals including Stanford Sports Medicine, Spaulding Rehabilitation Network, Hoag Hospital Network and Mass General Hospital’s Sports Medicine Center. Rift-based VRHealth rehabilitation solutions are available at 30 American locations.
