Israeli sharpshooter Doron Shaziri will carry the Israeli flag at the Paralympics Opening Ceremony later today (Aug.29), and hopefully lead the delegation on a winning mission. Shaziri, who lost a leg while serving in the army, holds European and World titles but wants a Paralympic gold to add to his collection.

He’s not the only one.

While Israel came home empty-handed from the London Olympics, the Paralympic delegation believes it has what it takes to make it to the podium.

“We won’t return without medals,” Danny Ben-Abu, chairman of Israel’s Sports Association for the disabled, told reporters.

Israel holds 333 medals in the Paralympic Games – 113 of them, gold.

Altogether, about 4,200 athletes from 150 nations will compete in 20 different sports. Israel’s delegation comprises 25 athletes competing in nine disciplines.
