Six Israeli women are taking part in the ‘latest and coolest event in the world of motor sport’ – the low-budget, community-minded cross-country Allgäu Orient Rally that begins in Germany and finishes in Jordan. This is the first time an Israeli team is taking part in the nine-year-old fundraising event.

The event sees 111 teams in 333 cars (at least 20 years on the road) and 666 participants from across the globe drive from southern Germany to Jordan. The teams can choose their routes but are not allowed to use GPS navigation systems.

The rally is a race but not only. Participants are encouraged to take part in community building and charitable activities. One of the goals of the Rally is to promote mutual understanding and tolerance between cultures and religions.

Last year, the rally drove through Israel for its first time ever. This year, the Israel Rally Queens debuted.

On May 20, the drivers will stretch their legs with a walk through Jerusalem’s Old City and a visit to Bethlehem.

The rally began on May 3 and will finish on May 24.
