Elephants in an Israeli zoo responded to the air raid sirens and subsequent boom just as any parent would react with her or his children. As the siren wailed, four adult Asian elephants were caught on video shielding and boxing in two calves to protect them from harm’s way at the Zoological Center Tel Aviv-Ramat Gan Safari.

Safari spokeswoman Sagit Horowitz posted a video of the elephants trumpeting and instinctively protecting their young.

“The adult elephants heard the siren, trumpeted and gathered around Latangi and Lalana in an attempt to protect them,” Horowitz wrote in explaining the video.
