Craig Horner, star of the cult fantasy series Legend Of The Seeker, is the latest Hollywood actor to take cues from an Israeli television role. The Australian actor has been tipped for the title role in the American CW network drama pilot, Joey Dakota.

Joey Dakota is a remake of Israel’s Danny Hollywood. The original series served up the swinging music of the 1960s while the American version will focus on music from the 1990s. In Israel, the show topped 200 episodes.

Deadline Hollywood is reporting that Horner will be joined by actors Amber Stevens and Leah Renee in the romantic musical series.

A tribute to Back To The Future, the plot tells of Maya (Stevens), who is filming a documentary about rock star Joey Dakota (Horner) who met an untimely death in the 1990s. She travels back in time, falls in love with him, and then when she is returned to the present has to find a way to reunite with her beau and prevent his death.

Joey Dakota is the latest American remake of a long line of Israeli television shows. Others include Showtime’s Homeland, HBO’s In Treatment and the Fox comedy, Traffic Light.
