IsraAid Children Japan

IsraAid sent its third emergency relief team to Japan on Sunday in an effort to provide medical relief and psycho-social support for children and their families displaced by the March earthquake and tsunami.

The delegation is heading for the Miyagi Prefecture, one of the hardest hit areas, and will work with Japan’s Ministry of Health to deliver urgently needed medicines to the Fuji Toranomon Hospital. It will then distribute them with local staff.

IsraAID arrived in Japan days after the March 10th earthquake and tsunami bringing urgently needed relief items to hard-hit communities. The latest delegation will join IsraAID’s current team on the ground, which is providing aid to children living in temporary shelters in Sendai and Watari.

The organization is now establishing Child Friendly Spaces, safe havens for children, run by a local volunteer and equipped with interactive toys, arts and crafts materials and games.

IsraAID is also working with local leaders and teachers to prepare ‘back to school activity kits’ for children expected to return to school in the coming weeks.
