The Tel Aviv Museum of Art was recently ranked 75th on the list of the 100 most popular museums in the world, according to the international art magazine The Art Newspaper.

This is the sixth year in a row the museum is included in the prestigious annual list. Last year’s ranking placed Tel Aviv Museum on the 48th spot.

The list tracks the number of visitors that attend the exhibitions in the museum throughout the year. In 2023, the Tel-Aviv Museum welcomed 906,350 visitors despite being closed for two months due to the war in Gaza, compared to 1,070,714 visitors in 2022.

Director of the Tel Aviv Museum of Art Tania Coen Uzzielli said it was “exciting and significant” to make the list despite the challenging year characterized by the October 7 attacks and the subsequent war.

“I am grateful to the large crowd of visitors who chose to come to the Tel Aviv Museum of Art and who continue to visit even in these difficult times,” she said. “Thanks to them and to the creative and valuable work of the museum staff, we continue to be committed to presenting the best local and international art.”

This year’s Art Newspaper list was topped by the Vatican Museum and the Louvre Museum in Paris, boasting the highest number of visitors globally.
