Israeli company Jazz Semiconductor has joined forces with the University of California, San Diego (UCSD), to develop a new chip for the satellite communications market.
The chip used Jazz’s 0.18-micron SiGe BiCMOS process and was designed and tested by UCSD’s Electrical and Computer Engineering School.
The chip is a two-antenna quad-beam RFIC phased array receiver covering the 11-15 GHz frequency range. A leading US defense company has reportedly signed a contract based on the chip. Jazz is a subsidiary of Tower Semiconductor.
