Israeli blind golfer Zohar Sharon, 65, won the ISPS Handa 2018 US Blind Golf Open held April 5-8 at the Haven Golf Course in Green Valley, Arizona. Sharon, who is also hearing impaired as a result of an injury in the 1970s, has won the International Blind Golf Association’s world tournament six times in 10 years at the side of his coach and caddie, Shimshon Levy.

Sharon trains at the Caesarea Golf Club and competes around the world with funding from the IDF Disabled Veterans Organization and the Defense Ministry. Since taking up golf in 2000, he has played with celebrities including basketball star Michael Jordan and former US President Gerald Ford.

On April 11, disabled shooting Paralympian Yulia Chernoy won the bronze medal at the 2018 World Shooting Para Sport Grand Prix in Szczecin, Poland.

This was the first international shooting competition for Chernoy, who trains at Beit Halochem in Tel Aviv under Olympic champion Guy Strick. She will be the only Israeli contestant at the World Shooting Para Sport Championships in South Korea, May 1-12.

Chernoy, 36, was born with a slight disability and previously competed in the para-triathlon, winning the European Championship in 2012.

“The fact that the competition took place on the eve of Holocaust Remembrance Day on Polish soil is of great significance to me,” said Chernoy. “I felt that I am proving that we are here, that we live, and that nothing will break us.”
