“I don’t do my work because I’m an Israeli,” says Molly Bernstein, who works for Israeli humanitarian aid nonprofit organization IsraAID. “I do it because I’m human. Humans live in Israel, just like they live in Syria and like they live in the States.”

Bernstein took an unexpected change in direction last year when she decided to put her Arabic skills to good use and joined IsraAID to become its head of mission in Greece. It was a life-changing experience.

Click on the video above to hear Bernstein describe her exhausting but uplifting work in processing newly arrived refugees and helping to staff medical clinics and a multilingual school.
