It is being hailed as the biggest puppet extravaganza ever to be staged in Israel: The 22nd International Puppet Theater Festival in Jerusalem. For five days – August 4-8, 2013 – the capital will host 125 puppet shows for adults and children.
On the bill: Four premieres, tens of leading puppeteers from the Far East, Europe and Israel.
This year’s highlight performance – “Lunar Eclipse- A traditional Thai Legend” – is by the famous Thai Theater company and is being sponsored by the Royal Thai Embassy.
“The two main themes of this year’s festival are the Far East and trains. This year’s festival is more interesting, surprising and innovative than ever before. We ensured that the latest techniques and top international artists are included,” says Dalia Yafe Maayan, Train Theater CEO and Festival Artistic Director.
“The festival promotes and encourages unique Israeli creation and honors the artists that made their mark in the field. As in every year, we open the festival gates to the wide audience, and present shows on open nights. We invite everyone to come and enjoy a huge cultural wealth,” she says.
Venues for the festival include the renovated Train Theater, three Khan theater halls, and the amphitheater at Liberty Bell Park.
