A delegation of school principals and teachers from Paipa municipality in Colombia, came to Israel last month to learn educational strategies that will strengthen local schools back home.

The South American educators took part in a tailor-made professional program on Education towards Sustainable Development (ESD) and New Pedagogies conducted by MASHAV’s Ofri Educational Training Center-METC, in cooperation with the Israeli Embassy in Colombia and the Municipality of Paipa.

Mayor of Paipa, Yamit Noe Hurtado Neira, actually took part in a METC course in Israel in 2015. Upon returning home, Neira introduced the concept of ESD in his city’s schools. Neira returned this year with a new batch of educators.

According to UNESCO, ESD “is about enabling us to constructively and creatively address present and future global challenges and create more sustainable and resilient societies.”
