The hidden cameras revealed the springtime nesting activities of two pairs of Barn Owls at Kibbutz Tirat Tzvi and Kibbutz Nir David, of the Lesser Kestrel at Kibbutz Elyakim and the Swifts at Schiff House in Tel Aviv.
Hundreds of thousands of nature lovers have enthusiastically followed the development of the nestlings via the website set up by Tel Aviv University and the Society for the Protection of Nature.
The birds on film are a sampling of those that have been encouraged to nest around the country as part of a national project to use Barn Owls and Kestrels as biological pest controllers for agriculture.
The project is a joint venture of the Ministry of the Environment, the Ministry of Agriculture, the Society for the Protection of Nature in Israel and Tel Aviv University. Participants include farmers from Jordan and the Palestinian Authority who were joined this year by 50 Israeli Arab farmers.
