A new exhibition at the Man & The Living World Museum, “The sky’s the limit”, presents images of the skies taken from Israel’s Bareket Observatory.

Established in 2002, Bareket is an astronomical educational observatory located east of the city of Maccabim, near Modiin. Among the goals of the program is increased communication and understanding within the population of the Middle East using astronomy as the catalyst.

The Observatory, which is owned and operated by the Bareket family, has developed the Israeli Internet telescope, a robotic telescope system that enables students and teachers to have full control on its state of the art telescopic system, cooled CCD camera and CFW from their home or school, from any part of the world that have an Internet connection. The Internet telescope is offered at no charge to all students and teachers in Israel.

It’s Astro-Edu network is a free state-of-the-art astronomy education database for teachers, students and the general public.

The Bareket Observatory also serves as the official International Dark-Sky Association representative of the region. The IDA is a non-profit organization established to fight light pollution which, it maintains, wastes energy and money, and prevents people from seeing the night sky, which in turn, affects our perception of the universe.

The Observatory’s live webcam can be viewed here, and staffer Ido Bareket has also posted some stunning videos on the Observatory’s YouTube channel.

Join the Bareket Observatory Friends Club and get updated by email (in English or in Hebrew).

The exhibition at the Man & The Living World Museum at the National Park, Ramat Gan, runs through June 2, 2013.
