Israel’s museum of architecture will open its doors on September 14, in the former studio of prominent Bauhaus architect, the late Munio Gitai Weinraub. Israeli film director Amos Gitai, Weinraub’s son and owner of the property, said the museum is a “homage to this generation of architects, like my father and his friends from the Bauhaus.”
The opening exhibit is titled The Architecture of Memory – a video installation about Weinraub.
Weinraub was trained at the Bauhaus in Europe before being expelled by the Nazis. He and his colleagues of the time produced a remarkable collection of Modernist buildings.
The internationally recognized Conde Nast Traveler magazine put Israel on its list of must-see architecture destinations.
The Munio Gitai Weinraub Architecture Museum is Israel’s 233rd museum.
