A picture may be worth a thousand words, but the hypnotizing footage of thousands of starlings caught on camera in southern Israel will leave viewers beyond words.

A Reuters cameraperson was in the right place at the right time on Monday, and caught images of a massive flock of starlings doing stunning group acrobats in the skies above the town of Rahat, in southern Israel.

The little birds, among 500 million feathered friends to fly over Israel each migratory season, group together as a safety measure to keep predators at bay. They travel thousands of miles together in a flock and spend most of their time foraging for food in Israel.

The starlings are known to perform their synchronized movements — called a murmuration — at dusk for up to one hour at a time.

This video is truly nature at its best.
