The famous mushroom rock at Timna.

Timna Park’s history began over 6,000 years ago when the first copper mines in the world were dug here by the ancient Egyptians in what is today the barren Negev desert.

In the early 1980s, a tourist park was established here and over the years, the beautiful and historical natural park has become increasingly popular with tourists.

Further development is now under way to turn the park into a massive tourist destination with hiking routes, bike paths and even a lake.

This week’s photo of the week from www.shutterstock.com, is of the famous mushroom rock at Timna.

If you’ve got a photograph you’d like to feature on ISRAEL21c please send it in high resolution to info@israel21c.org. Every week we will choose the best one to feature on our pages.
