Yesterday, Israel commemorated one month since the devastating Hamas attack on October 7, with a minute of silence and memorials up and down the country. It’s been an awful month. Every day, more news about the barbarity of the attack has emerged, leaving people reeling. We’ve also had to say goodbye to loved ones called up to fight Hamas, knowing the dangers that face them in this horrible, unwanted war. And yet, despite this, despite the unaccustomed gloom that has settled on people’s hearts here, and our fears for the hostages, there is something else afoot too – revival. Schools have reopened, shops and cafes are back in business, and companies all across the country are working again, learning to adapt to a new normal. This is resilience. This is what makes Israel unusually strong. It’s not easy for us, and we face many challenges, but people here understand that the only way to win against terrorism and hate is to go on. And that’s what we will do at ISRAEL21c. During the last four weeks, our focus has been almost completely on bringing you news about the war. But as Israel comes back to life, we will reintroduce our regular stories too. Our mission is to bring you stories about humanity and hope – whether it’s about the ongoing conflict, or about the people still managing, in difficult times, to use creativity and innovation to make the world a better place.
