Imagine not being able to blink. Blinking is so automatic, so essential… and so impossible for hundreds of thousands of people with permanent or temporary facial paralysis. When this happened to attorney Michal Marks after brain surgery, she suffered with the painful consequences until two engineer friends realized what she needed was a pacemaker for blinking. Finding nothing of the sort on the market, they built her a prototype that instantly relieved the condition. In the blink of an eye, literally, she could finally resume regular activities including driving and working. The three of them founded NeuroTrigger to develop their wearable, rechargeable system, which contracts the eyelid muscles according to parameters set by a medical professional. We are excited to bring you this eye-opening report on their promising invention, now on the path toward regulatory approval in the United States and Europe. NeuroTrigger could also potentially help those with Parkinson’s disease or dry eye syndrome. Abigail Klein Leichman |
