Like many people in Israel these days, I spent some hours this week volunteering on a farm. It was my job to sort the cucumbers to aleph quality and bet quality. There were many, many cucumbers. Others were picking and packing miniature peppers, or more cucumbers, and some planting strawberries. In usual days the farm has 80 laborers working in the fields, now they have only a few left. Without volunteers, the crops would go unpicked and nothing would reach the shops. It’s the same story up and down Israel, not only on farms, but in many different and vital locations. Many of our readers have been asking us how they can help, and some people are even planning trips to Israel just for this reason. To make it easier, we’ve put together a list of organizations looking for help right now. If you know more, drop us a message. Happy volunteering. Nicky Blackburn |
