My favorite thing about tech conferences is usually the startups. Lectures can be fascinating and illuminating, networking in the corridors is great – but it’s often the emerging startups that really grab my attention. It’s a snapshot of where an industry is going and what new things will emerge next. It’s like looking into the future. This month it was EcoMotion, Israel’s largest mobility tech conference. Israel is one of the leading world players in the field of smart car technologies – a fact that used to surprise people since the country has no car manufacturing industry to talk of – but which actually makes complete sense given that today cars are all about cybertech, computer vision and AI. I sent reporter Brian Blum to take a look. He’s an expert on auto-tech and shares a similar excitement for developing technologies. He came back with a list of 24 of the most exciting startups at the show. We’re talking driver alertness technologies, multi-story robotic charging stations, technologies that make traffic lights more efficient, and my personal favorite – foldable cars. You don’t have to be a techie to enjoy this list. It’s relevant to anyone who gets in a car. Warm regards, Nicky Blackburn |
