One of the leading risk factors for stroke is a plaque build up in the carotid arteries on both sides of the neck. Up to now the standard treatment was either to surgically open the arteries and clean the plaque, or to insert a stent to widen them. Both methods have long recovery times and often lead to complications. Now an Israeli startup has developed a safer and quicker alternative that so far has seen a 98% success rate. Think stroke isn’t much of a problem? In the US, every 40 seconds someone has a stroke. Those are chilling figures.
