This last year of war and the internal political strife has weighed heavy on Israel and there’s no doubt that society here has seen some deep fundamental changes. Cultural change usually takes place over a slower period, but in times of crisis – like Covid, and now the war in Israel – everything speeds up. We got to talking about it the other day in an editorial meeting, and started identifying the changes we have seen ourselves. Some of them are good, some not, but for sure many are here to stay. The character of Israel, as a relatively young country, has been developing as it grows, but the impact of this year is making lasting differences that even though we can see them, and identify them, we may not fully understand their consequences for years.
