There’s a traffic light in the town near me that always causes havoc. It’s got a short timer obviously and only around five or six cars can get through when the lights go green. It’s fine when traffic is light, but as soon as it starts to build, the line quickly gets out of control, the road gets jammed, pollution rises, and people keep driving even when the lights go red, just to make it round the corner – causing dozens of accidents. Now, a startup is disrupting these timed traffic lights with AI tech that will measure real-time traffic flow, identify the type of vehicles on the road, and adjust accordingly. No more waits at empty junctions in the middle of the night either. It’s already proving a success in several US cities. Canada is next. Now, I just need it to reach my neighborhood. Nicky Blackburn |
