Israeli entrepreneur Ori Allon has done it again. Allon is selling his start-up Julpan to Twitter in a deal reported to be in the tens of millions of dollars.
Five years ago, Google acquired Allon’s patented thesis work called Orion and also hired him.
Allon left Google in 2010 to found Julpan. According to Julpan, it develops “early-alpha-stage search technology that analyzes social activity across the Web to deliver fresh and relevant content to users.” That is, it creates search engines for social networks which yield results based on users’ regular activity rather than on search queries.
It didn’t take long before he was bought out again. The Twitter deal includes Allon taking on the post as the company’s head of engineering.
“With more than 230 million tweets a day on every conceivable topic, Twitter allows us to make a bigger contribution to connecting people to what interests them”, wrote Allon in a post on Julpan’s official blog. “We are looking forward to joining forces with Twitter’s development team to see how e can improve Julpan’s innovativeness”.
