On a sunny day in mid-December, a few hundred people came together to make a dream come true for 14 severely disabled Israeli children: a road rally in which the kids controlled their own go-karts custom-built by teams of adult volunteers.

It all started when Ziv Lev’s young son asked his dad to build a go-kart for a friend with disabilities. When Lev saw how much the vehicle pleased the youngster, he reached out to fellow members of a group that stages rallies using fixed-up wrecks. Soon he had 14 teams of volunteers making customized electric go-karts for 14 severely disabled children across Israel.

Each kart was designed for the child’s specific disability and was painted the child’s favorite color. The owners of Karting Israel in Beit Berl donated their track for the rally gathering all 14 kids and karts at the end of the three-month building process, and other businesses chipped in to donate food and other supplies for this one-of-a-kind rally.

The smiles on the faces of the children and parents are priceless.
