Three rhinoceros pals took a morning stroll right out the gate of Ramat Gan Safari around 6 o’clock on New Year’s Day.
It seems the trio took advantage of the fact that the guard had fallen asleep on the job just after the outer gate and their enclosure’s inner gate had been opened for the day.
Rihanna, Karnivala and Keren Peles spent about 10 minutes wandering in the facility’s parking lot before being shepherded back to the Safari’s African zone. No harm done, but the guard was dismissed from his job.
And then, just three days later, an emu was spotted dodging traffic in downtown Herzliya. The six-foot-tall flightless bird was captured by the city’s veterinary staff and returned to its owner, apparently a private citizen.
