More than 2,000 of the world’s leading renewable energy experts, business people, politicians and policy makers are participating in the three-day Eilat-Eilot International Renewable Energy Conference that opens today in the southern Israeli city of Eilat.

Participants include the most innovative clean tech companies from across the globe. An important event in the field, the conference will showcase leading companies such as Siemens, Schott Solar and Ormat as well as dozens of promising emerging technology companies.

Issues addressed will concern policies and regulation, implementation, energy conservation, R&D, and the development and financing of renewable energy. Organizers hope the conference will advance Israel’s goal of achieving energy independence.

A highlight will be the unveiling of a proposed regional model for solving the energy crisis while creating economic growth, that can also be applied to other localities.

Aimed at transforming the southern region of Israel into a fossil fuel-free site by deploying the latest renewable energy technologies, the model will demonstrate how energy independence can be facilitated by commercial and technological opportunities.

A mini-conference to be held at the same time will focus on energy efficiency and address pressing issues such as public and private sector cooperation, policy solutions, financing, energy efficiency in cities and models for integration.
