If you’re looking for something to do, the Jerusalem Jazz Festival gets underway today as part of the Hamshushalayim winter cultural festival in the capital.

The second Jerusalem Jazz Festival (Dec. 14-16) is an international project of the Israel Festival and was conceived and is supported by the Jerusalem Foundation, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary. Top jazz artists from Israel and the world over are participating.

The jazz event is just one of the many happenings taking place through December 24, in Jerusalem as part of the winter cultural festival.

“The Hamshushalyim Festival showcases the cultural wealth of the city of Jerusalem in all its beauty – in a breathtaking display of creativity, activity, of community, and traditional along with modern culture. Like each year, we have invested greatly in the program in order to ensure a diverse experience suitable for all ages, so that every resident and visitor in the city from Israel or around the world can take part in this colorful festival,” said Mayor of Jerusalem Nir Barkat.

Another highlight is the Hullegeb Israel-Ethiopian Arts Festival, dedicated to creations by artists of Ethiopian origin in the fields of dance, music and theater. The event, taking place December 16-21, 2016, aims to create artistic harmony among the more than 100 ethnic groups that make up Jerusalem.

Other top-billed shows include Pianos 2016 (December 22-24) at the Jerusalem Theater and Ladino music at the Post Hotel (December 24).

“‘Hamshushalayim’ is taking place this year for the 12th year, and after more than a decade we can say it has been a greater success than we imagined. We are delighted to see so many visitors come to enjoy the festival. The events are a central part of the development of tourism in the city, which has seen a significant increase in the last five years, with much more potential for growth,” said Jerusalem Development Authority’s Director of Tourism Ilanit Melchior.
