Day Seven at the Paralympic Games was a brilliant one for the Israeli delegation as wheelchair tennis partners Noam Gershony and Shraga Weinberg, cyclist Kobi Leon and shooter Doron Shaziri won three medals.
Gershony and Weinberg kicked things off as they sailed to victory in the Quad Doubles against Japan.
The Israeli duo beat Shota Kawano and Mitsuteru Moroishi in two sets with scores of 6-3 and 6-1.
The tennis partners are set to face off for a medal in the Quad Singles semi-final event. The winner will go on to the finals – and guarantee at least a silver medal for Israel while the loser of the match will still be able to reach the podium if he wins the bronze final.
Shaziri was the next Israeli to secure a medal today. He led the Men’s R7-50m Rifle 3 Positions-SH1 after the quarter final round and ended in second overall after the final round.
And then it was Leon’s turn to reach the podium — he pedaled 16 kilometers in 35:53.30 to second place in the Men’s Individual H 1 Time Trial.
Today’s haul brings the number of Israeli medals to six. The first three medals –all bronze– were won by swimmers Inbal Pezaro and Itzhak Mamistvalov.
