For the first time in Israel, the world’s best weightlifters will take part in the European Weightlifting Championship in Tel Aviv. Four Israeli athletes — Anatoly Mushik (85 kg), David Litvinov and Igor Olshezkiy (+105 kg), and Oxana Zalotova (53 kg) –are hoping to step on the home podium.
Altogether some 500 athletes and their trainers from 40 countries will take part in the global competition that begins April 5 and will run through April 12, 2014.
“This is a championship with many viewers across Europe. The city of Tel Aviv is proud to host such an important contest and welcomes sporting events as such,” says Ron Huldai, Mayor of Tel Aviv-Yafo.
