Israeli medical device startup Elfi-Tech has been chosen as one of 12 finalists in the $2.25 million Nokia Sensing XCHALLENGE, a global competition aimed at revolutionizing digital healthcare.
The contest is comprised of two competitions that are designed to accelerate the development of sensing technologies that capture meaningful data about a consumer’s health state, surrounding environment, and risk of developing a health condition.

Elfi-Tech is the only Israeli company chosen as a finalist.

Founded in 2006 by Dr. Ilya Fine, Elfi-Tech is developing a platform aimed at patient monitoring and first line home diagnostics. Using its ability to measure multiple existing and new parameters of vascular health, Elfi-Tech is introducing its own indices to allow for early detection of cardiac health issues.

The Rehovot-based company has developed innovative non-invasive optical sensing technology based on DLS (Dynamic Light Scattering) via a miniaturized sensor (mDLS). The Elfi mDLS device can non-invasively measure skin blood flow, blood velocity, coagulation, vascular health, clotting and relative cardiac output (RCO) in addition to already existing parameters like pulse and motion anywhere on the body.

On the contest website, organizers wrote: “Elfi-Tech shares the XPRIZE vision to create affordable, personalized healthcare through sophisticated sensing technologies. The ability to accurately monitor personal health as well as to securely share that information with medical professionals will truly revolutionize healthcare.”

Winners will be announced in July 2014.
