“I don’t know a lot of cities in the world where, once a week, they close the roads and you can go rollerblading,” says one of the hundreds of roller-skating enthusiasts who comes out for the Tel Aviv Rollers’ weekly jaunts.

“It’s a kind of freedom,” says Alik Mintz, founder of the group that meets every Monday night. “It’s a lot of fun and it’s the best workout activity you can do without being extremist.

“Tel Aviv, I would say, is the best town for rollers because it has a very good atmosphere and high energy all the time.”
