There are those who visit Israel on bus trips and those who prefer to walk around. And then there are the 14 members of the Longboard Girls Crew (LGC), an international longboard community and support network for female riders, currently wheeling their way through some of the country’s top destinations.
Hailing from Argentina, Australia, Canada, Panama, Spain, Sweden, the US and Venezuela, the women skaters are being filmed for a documentary by Venezuelan filmmaker Daniel Etura, himself a skater based in Madrid.
The film is titled OPEN and, according to the group, “aims to open the spectator’s eyes to a new experience through a skate journey of a unique group of very talented female riders in a faraway, exotic and un-skated land in one of the most talked-about countries in the world: ISRAEL. Our challenge is to show a different and less known face of this country.”
The crew is in Israel from August 24 through September 1. On their touring schedule: Jerusalem, Tel Aviv, the Galilee, Negev and Dead Sea.
LGC is an international longboard community created in the summer of 2010 by a group of female riders living in Madrid. Their main goal is the promotion of longboarding amongst women and real gender equality in the sport.
The women will also have the help and support of the Israeli longboarding community who will interact with and accompany the ladies as they skate through Israel. They will also work together with Longboarding for Peace, a sports association with whom they aim to “spread the word of peace and stoke.”
