Three Israelis were among this year’s 12 winners of the prestigious Blavatnik award given every year to young researchers by the New York Academy of Science.
They were recognized for their achievements in areas ranging from earth science to engineering at the New York Academy of Sciences’ 7th annual Science & the City Gala, on November 15.
The Israeli winners were: Yaron Lipman (33) from Tel Aviv, a Postdoctoral Research Associate at the Program in Applied and Computational Mathematics and the Computer Science Department, Princeton University; Daniela Schiller (37) also from Tel Aviv, a Postdoctoral Associate at New York University and Michal Lipson (40), from Haifa, an Associate Professor at the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Cornell University.
The New York Academy of Sciences Blavatnik Awards for Young Scientists “acknowledge and celebrate the excellence of our most noteworthy young scientists and engineers in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut.”
The Awards recognize highly innovative, impactful, and interdisciplinary accomplishments in the life sciences, physical sciences, mathematics and engineering with unrestricted financial prizes for both finalists and awardees.
Each postdoctoral winner received $15,000 in unrestricted funds; each faculty winner received $25,000 in unrestricted funds, while faculty finalists received $10,000 in unrestricted funds. Awards were made possible due to the generosity of the Blavatnik Family Foundation.
