Tel Aviv opens library at the beach

Finding the perfect summertime beach read just got easier. The Tel Aviv-Jaffa Municipality is opening its first ever beach library for tourists and locals.
With over 860 public libraries around the country and 300 sunny days a year, it makes sense that the people of the book should have a library at the beach as well.
No need to stain your favorite book with sunscreen splotches, the city has you covered with its new endeavor. And keeping up with the times, those who prefer to read electronically can bring their own tablets and connect to the free WiFi that Tel Aviv provides all over the city, including the beach.
The books in the beach library are offered in five languages: English, Arabic, Russian, French and Hebrew.
“Tel Aviv-Yafo has 22 public libraries and there are over 400,000 book borrowings every year. It is our pleasure to open another library in the summer months for the enjoyment of the residents and visitors of the city. Now you can enjoy a good book at the beach as well,” said Mayor Ron Hulda’i.
This is not the first unconventional library in Tel Aviv. The city installed bus-stop public libraries in 2011.
Mayor Ron Huldai will officially launch the new project on Tuesday (July 9) at the popular Metzizim Beach.
