Just 48 hours after the 7.0 magnitude quake occurred, IsraAID/FIRST was on the ground providing emergency medical care and humanitarian aid.

Two weeks later, IsraAID/FIRST is expanding its work in some of the hardest-hit areas of Port-au-Prince. In close coordination with the relief efforts of Penn and Atias, IsraAID, along with Operation Blessing and other international NGOs, is providing medical care and post-trauma support to thousands of refugees who have gathered in make-shift camps outside the US ambassador’s residence.

The camp, which is now home to more than 50,000 refugees, receives support from the US embassy and international NGOs that are providing much needed food, temporary shelter and relief items.

IsraAID teams have also been traveling to many of the satellite camps around Port-au-Prince that Penn and Atias are assisting, to help to treat the injured and to assess the next phase of their relief efforts.
