Asma Massimi of Nablus bested hundreds of aspiring hairdressers in the “everyday hairdo styling” category of the Israel Cup 2015 hairstyling and makeup contest, held April 27 on the campus of Tel Aviv University.
Massimi, a student at the Motie Rubin Academy in Tel Aviv, won a pair of premium Japanese haircutting scissors worth NIS 6,000 (about $1,550) for the hairdo she designed on the head of a model who accompanied her from Nablus (Shechem in Hebrew), a city administered by the Palestinian Authority.
Her first-place win qualifies her to go to the World Cup in Korea, according to Roman Rubin from OMC Israel, the Israeli association for national hairdressers, makeup artists and beauticians, which sponsors the annual competition.
Though Jordan and Turkey chose not to send anyone to the Israel Cup, Massimi told Ynet News that she had entered the competition in the past, and had no hesitation to try again.
“I brought a lot of respect to Palestine,” Massimi told Ynet.
Rubin tells ISRAEL21c that the contest for student beauticians drew contestants also from Russia, Ukraine and Georgia. An international panel of judges graded each contestant’s work on the basis of its beauty, creativity, innovation and attention to detail. Categories also included haircutting, cosmetology, bridal makeup and fingernail design.
