The latest accolade comes by way of Lonely Planet’s new release, Food Lover’s Guide to the World.

The travel experts ate their way around the world and came back with a Top 10 list for the world’s best breakfasts.

Shakshouka in Jerusalem at Tmol Shilshom café made the coveted list.

“In Hebrew, shakshouka means ‘all mixed up’, a tastily accurate description of this dish of eggs poached in a sauce of tomatoes, peppers, onion and spices,” the guide writers explain. “If you like spicy flavours, order your shakshouka charif, and don’t forget to ask for extra crusty bread to mop up the hearty sauce.”

Lonely Planet regularly highlights Israeli sites in its polls. Prior to this food rating, the guide series ranked the Negev desert on its Top 10 list of regions to visit in 2013.
