Israeli sailors hope winds will blow them on right course

Israeli sailors Vered Buskila and Gil Cohen are one place away from the medal event in the women’s 470 class at the Olympics. The two sailors will compete in the final races of the preliminary rounds today and must finish high up in order to secure their spot in Friday’s race.
Even if the women do make it to the finals, they are not medal contenders.
Meanwhile, Israel’s last athletes set for Olympic competition have arrived in London. Rhythmic gymnasts Moran Bozovski, Marina Schultz, Noa Palchi, Victoria Koshel, Neta Rivkin, Polyana Zakolzani and Eliora Zolokovski and marathon runner Zohar Zemiro recently arrived in the Olympic Village and are readying themselves for their events.
Qualifications for the group all-around and individual all-around events in rhythmic gymnastics are set for Thursday and Friday (August 8-9). Rivkin, Israel’s representative in the individual competition, hopes her second Olympics will result in a top finish.
Rivkin competed at the 2008 Beijing Games and scored a 14th place finish. Since then she has consistently placed in the top three at European and world championships.
Israeli marathon runner Zemiro will compete in the men’s marathon on August 12.
Zemiro was born in Ethiopia and immigrated to Israel at the age of 10. At 35, he is one of the country’s veteran runners. Zemiro was named Athlete of the Year in 2011 by the Israel Athletics Association.
