Israeli glass sparkles

A new glass exhibit at the Eretz Israel Museum in Tel Aviv is set to dazzle the local art world this summer.
Dubbed the ‘largest glass art exhibit’ in the history of the State, the display includes 100 works by 67 Israeli artists.
From cute, oversized glass animal figurines to huge, abstract glass works, the exhibit shows that the Israeli glass art scene is alive.
“From minute to monumental, from individual objects to mixed-media installations, from figurative to pure abstraction, from personal narrative to social, historical and political references, the exhibits reflect a vast range of approaches, working treatments, concepts and artistic concerns highlighting some of the inventive and imaginative ways glass is used and its versatility as a medium of artistic expression,” writes curator Henrietta Eliezer Brunner.
The works were created by established artists as well as by those just starting out.
Some of the artists concentrated on using traditional skills and standard materials, while others seemed to push the boundaries of what is possible with glass. The exhibit, which opened July 15 and runs through November 15, also includes video work, installations, and digital technology.
