The Israeli Army (IDF) says it has admitted a wounded Syrian man into Israel and sent him to hospital for treatment. The IDF Spokesperson’s Unit said the decision to open the border over the weekend (March 30) was made in accordance with IDF policy for humanitarian cases.
The IDF said the wounded man will be returned to Syria upon his discharge from hospital.
As Syria’s civil war continues, reports indicate there are an increasing number of wounded Syrians coming to the border with Israel for medical assistance.
The French news agency AFP reported that Israel has set up a field hospital along the border with Syria to treat Syrians wounded in their country’s civil war.
Last week, IDF medics treated seven Syrians at the border – and sent two of the seriously wounded to Israeli hospitals.
In February, for the first time since fighting broke out in neighboring Syria, Israel opened its border to the wounded.
According to reports, the IDF has allowed 11 wounded Syrians requesting medical assistance into Israel.
