Jesse Eisenberg toured Israel for the first time.

Oscar-nominated actor Jesse Eisenberg was in town last week – right in the midst of Operation Protective Edge – to conduct a question-and-answer session with the audience at a Hebrew-language version of his play The Revisionist.

Eisenberg is slated to play the villain Lex Luthor in the upcoming film Batman Versus Superman: Dawn of Justice. Israeli actress Gal Gadot was cast as Wonder Woman in the movie, due out in 2016. He starred alongside Vanessa Redgrave in the original English version of The Revisionist, which he wrote.

Eisenberg told The Hollywood Reporter that he was not afraid to make his first visit to the Holy Land at a time of conflict.

“If there was any sign that I would be endangered somehow, I would have hesitated to come, but that wasn’t the case,” he said. “Israel is a wonderful country, and it is an unfortunate time, of course, for people living here, but for me this has been a very good week.”

Eisenberg told the play’s audience at Tel Aviv’s Beit Lessin Theater on July 24 that he and a friend were planning to travel to Jerusalem and the north during their time in Israel, and reportedly he did visit the capital city as well as Acre and Haifa.
