Tonight’s Jerusalem Maccabiah Night Run is the inaugural event of the run-up to the 20th Maccabiah Games, set to take place in July 2017.

At the starting line of the running event tonight, Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat and the Chairman of the Maccabiah, Amir Peled, will announce the launch of the year of the Maccabiah Games.

The Jerusalem Maccabiah Night Run, the first of its kind, is co-organized by the Jerusalem Municipality and the Maccabiah. There are two route options: a 10km race and a half marathon.

Some 5,000 local and international runners are expected to participate.

At the 19th Maccabiah in 2013, approximately 9,000 athletes, coaches and other support staff converged on Israel from 78 countries.
